Though the digital media has claimed a substantial share of the design and presentation market, I continue to offer traditional hand-drafting. While the skilled digital artist can effectively present many designs, some projects benefit greatly from the more subtle imagery that is possible with pencil and brush. I've observed this to be especially true with proposals in sensitive or historically significant design content. Also, in an era of widespread computer application, the look of traditional graphics can lead to a distinctive cachet to ones presentation, "Wow! That's hand-drawn!"
In addition to presentation
drawing, an important part of my practice is design consulting. In the
very preliminary phase of a project I can offer a useful contribution
towards creating a plausible "image". Though careful study has
not yet been invested in design resolution, a convincing illustration
can communicate the concept, the feeling, and the serious intent needed
to launch the endeavor.
Special interests to me are projects that require contextual or stylistic
sensitivity, especially in historic districts. I have cultivated a fluency
in numerous traditional styles, and take pleasure in producing drawings
evocative of the period. These qualities can subtly infer that there is
a serious commitment towards an appropriate design solution.
In July 2006, I relocated my practice to "The Freight House,"
844 Webster Street in Marshfield. That concluded 33 years of commuting
to Boston. Even better, it facilitates my collaboration with Stenbeck
& Taylor, Inc. and Rockwood Designs. I've enjoyed a long professional
affiliation with these firms, and look forward to our future collaborations.
